When most couples envision a vacation to a destination such as the beautiful island of Palawan they automatically think 5 star resorts and lounging beachside. What many are unaware of is that one of the top destinations in Palawan is one that is far from an experience at one of the swanky resorts.

For the adventure and nature lovers out there, Palawan has something amazing for you. The Underground River is a must see natural wonder when visiting Palawan. Yes, Palawan is known for its romantic atmosphere but why not throw in a little bit of fun in as well?

The famous Underground River can be found just 50 kilometers north of Puerto Princesa. Being the island’s capital, many airlines such as Seair, have daily flights to the airport located in Puerto Princesa which make it not only stress free but also hassle free to get your vacation started.

There was a time that the Underground River was not so easily accessible and only those that had a calling for true adventure ventured the rough roads to see the breathtaking views. To date, there are newly built roads that make it a breeze for everyone to enjoy and marvel in the beauty that the river and the limestone mountains hold.

Canoes are the main source of transportation through the river. They are safe and are also notably quiet so they do not disturb any of the species that are found in the area. It also allows visitors to take in the spectacular sights around them without having a to listen to a roaring motor of a motor boat. These Canoes transport visitors to the Underground River’s mouth where they can take in all the different types of birds that fly above. Birds such as Blue-naped parrots, Majestic White Breasted Sea Eagles and Hill Mynas are known to be found along the river. When guests approach the shoreline they will be entertained by the Long tailed Macaques that feed in the area when the tide is low. Sightings of other animals like badgers, porcupines, bearded pigs, Hawksbill turtles, sea cows and bearcats are also quite common.
The best thing about seeing the Underground River is that local tour guides there to row the canoes and give you entertaining tidbits about not only the river but the rest of the island as well. Seair makes it easy to travel and see the Philippines. For information on flight schedules and fares to Palawan, visit http://www.flyseair.com/node/307 .
